Vegas

We're in Vegas this week. Blair had to do some work for a customer here. The weather is beautiful. It is 68 degrees. We visited Hoover Dam this morning. It is amazing. They're working on a new bridge. We didn't do the tour that goes down underground. They have a sign posted that if you're claustrophobic that it wouldn't be for you. We decided against it. I packed a camara, books, vitamins, and CD's to listen to on the way in a small bag. I left it at home on my bed. So, no pictures this time. We stopped at Claim Jumper for lunch. Yesterday we ate at In N Out. They have an In n Out in Washington and we wanted to stop there on Saturday, but it was packed and a line of cars wrapped around the building. We couldn't believe it. There was a Del Taco next to it with 2 people inside. We ate there.

Family

We had a great opportunity this week to have Sam and Amber's 3 oldest children - Hailey, Ivan and Caleb stay with us while they and Ella were in Georgia on a job interview. We went to the movie "Tale of Despereaux". Heidi, Benji and James came with us for the matinee. Benji joined his cousins for a sleepover and we had lots of fun. I have to say how grateful I am for these sweet little children. (Jack included) They bring so much joy. I'm grateful for my good kids and their good spouses who try hard in all they do. I'm a proud and grateful mom and grandma.

Happy New Year!

From the Al-Anon credo:

JUST FOR TODAY, I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once. I know that I can do something for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
JUST FOR TODAY, I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.
JUST FOR TODAY, I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things that I can correct and accept those I cannot.
JUST FOR TODAY, I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.
JUST FOR TODAY, I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I'll improve my appearance, speak softly, and not interrupt when someone else is talking. Just for today, I'll refrain from improving anybody but myself.
JUST FOR TODAY, I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I'm overweight, I'll eat healthily - if only just for today. And not only that, I'll get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.
JUST FOR TODAY, I will gather the courage to do what is right and take responsibility for my own actions.
